Iowa Medical Waste Requirements and Regulations

We care about your business needs and ensure that we are in compliance with applicable Federal and State of Iowa regulations. Medical waste disposal regulations are managed by the Department of Natural Resources. Rules of special waste disposal can be found in Chapter 109 of the Iowa Administrative Code and definitions on solid waste management and disposal in Chapter 100 of the Iowa Administrative Code.

All waste must be in containers and biomedical waste is required to be contained separately from other waste at the point of origin.

Waste should be stored in a secure location protected from animals, weather elements, and unintentional human exposure.

Regulated Medical Waste (Special Solid Waste) in Iowa includes:
