Vermont Medical Waste Requirements and Regulations
We care about your business needs and make sure that we are in compliance with Federal and State of Vermont regulations. Vermont’s medical waste disposal regulations are managed by the Agency of Natural Resources and the Department of Environmental Conservation. Vermont’s procedures regarding the handling and treatment of regulated medical waste management regulations can be found here.

All RMW generators (shippers) are asked to consider performing a waste minimization and pollution prevention assessment for their facility
Time limits for storage of untreated RMW, at a transfer, storage or treatment facility may not exceed:
- Storage Conditions from date of receipt
- Room Temperature up to 3 days
- Refrigerated at < 40 F up to 7 days
- Frozen at < 0 F up to 37 days.
Waste should be labeled "Biohazard" and stored in a secure and locked area, with no presence of odours and maintains packaging integrity.
