Florida’s medical waste disposal regulations are managed by the Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Health. Complete details on state requirements can be found by contacting the Florida Department of Health or the Bureau of Community Environmental Health.
A Biomedical Waste Operating Plan, a contingency plan for emergencies, procedures for decontaminating spills and a Spill Cleanup Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) must be maintained.

Exterior storage of waste must be locked and biohazard warning symbols mst be displayed. Biomedical waste must be removed within 30 days from the time the first non-sharps item is placed into the red bag/sharps container or when a sharps container of only sharps is sealed.
The 30 day storage period begins on the day where waste is collected from the generator (shipper).
These details should be designated in the Biomedical Waste Operating Plan
The interior storage area should be impervious to water, have restricted access, with no carpeting in the area - rough cement must be sealed. Containers must be removed within 30 days after the container is closed.
A description of biomedical waste training is required initially and annually, with training information and records required part of the Biomedical Waste Plan.
