Oklahoma Medical Waste Requirements and Regulations

We care about your business needs and ensure that we are in compliance with Federal and State of Oklahoma regulations. Oklahoma’s medical waste disposal regulations are managed by the Department of Environmental Quality, Land Protection Division.

See Item 23 on Title 252, Chapter 515 on the Management of Solid Waste for Regulated Medical Waste Management regulations. Complete details on state requirements can be found by contacting the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Land Protection Division.

Oklahoma defines Regulated Medical Waste as:

  • Cultures and stocks
  • Human blood, blood products, body fluids, except urine or feces
  • Untreated sharps
  • Used blood collection bags, tubes, and vials
  • Contaminated carcasses, body parts, bedding of research animals intentionally exposed
  • Isolation wastes, unless determined to be noninfectious
  • HIV-containing cell or tissue cultures, organ cultures, and HIV- or HBV-containing culture medium or other solutions; and blood, organs, or other tissues from experimental animals infected with HIV or HBV
  • Trace chemotherapeutic waste (packaged separately – incinerate only)
  • Pathological waste (packaged separately – incinerate only)

Regulated medical waste should not generate noxious odors and cannot not be compacted. Storage areas should be secure and protect waste from theft, inadvertent human or animal exposure, and the weather elements.
