Stericycle has been recognized for its more gender-balanced board by 50/50 Women on Boards™ (50/50WOB), the leading global education and advocacy campaign driving gender balance and diversity on corporate boards. 50/50WOB commends Stericycle as a “3+” company for having three or more women on its corporate board of directors.
With three women directors, including our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Cindy Miller, as well as two other members from diverse backgrounds, Stericycle demonstrates that companies with diverse boards can be profitable and productive workplaces.
There are many benefits to having more gender-balanced and diverse corporate boards. Members bring unique experiences and perspectives that can ignite creativity and innovation, which can lead to stronger business results and profits. Many successful companies have diverse boards, including several Fortune 20 companies that share Stericycle’s 3+ ranking. Although, Stericycle is one of the few on the Fortune list with a female CEO and CFO.
Spearheaded by Ms. Miller, promoting gender balance and diversity are priorities throughout the organization. Since being named the first female CEO of a publicly-traded waste company in May 2019, Ms. Miller has expanded diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the company. She signed the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion pledge to demonstrate Stericycle’s commitment to cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Ms. Miller also prioritized the recruitment, hiring, and development of team members who have diverse backgrounds and unique experiences and fostered the creation of six employee resource groups compromised of diverse populations that we consult for perspective.
“We are honored to be recognized for the female representation on our board, commented Cindy J. Miller, President and CEO, Stericycle. “Different experiences and ways of thinking are how breakthroughs happen. We believe it is essential to support and promote diversity at all levels in Stericycle.”
“Investors and enlightened leaders continue to make institutional decisions that reinforce the business advantages of diverse boards,” said Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire, CEO of 50/50 Women on Boards. “We are pleased to recognize Stericycle for prioritizing this business decision that benefits its shareholders, employees, customers, and communities.”
