Waste Characterization and Identification

  • Stericycle’s proprietary database of more than 450,000 National Drug Codes (NDCs) is continually updated and cross referenced with your facility’s formulary for waste characterization and efficient, compliant disposal
  • Our characterization reports include EPA and DOT hazardous, DEA, and state level classifications

Containers and Service for Facility-Wide Collection

  • Our team of experts will work with your hospital staff to determine the location, type, and number of containers needed in satellite accumulation areas (SAAs)
  • To make the process easier, our pharmaceutical waste containers are color-coded for a user-friendly disposal process
  • Once containers are full, they are moved to the central accumulation area (CAA) by your EVS staff or a Stericycle Service Specialist
  • Stericycle coordinates waste packaging into DOT compliant transport containers for transportation to final disposal

  • Stericycle pharmaceutical waste experts will conduct an introductory training presentation
  • Educational posters and presentations are available and custom materials can be provided based on your unique needs

Packaging, Labeling, Shipping and Disposal

Stericycle will coordinate the labeling, transportation and disposal of pharmaceutical waste generated from your location.

  • Your staff will receive DOT required training, guidance on proper packaging, and labels will be provided
  • Manifests and waste tracking to final disposal will be provided and stored in our customer portal for easy access
  • All waste will be transported and treated to help ensure pharmaceutical waste does not contaminate the environment
